About Us

Opened in 1982, Fiesta Pizza III in Chestnut Hill was the tenth restaurant opened by Sam Thomas and his family. Sam arrived in the Philadelphia area from Greece in 1955. He began his restaurant career as a dishwasher, learning the business and the English language as he saved money for his ultimate dream: to buy his own restaurant.

That dream came true in 1966 when Sam opened the very first Fiesta Pizza in Upper Darby. Following its incredible success, Sam and his wife Gloria proceeded to open subsequent Fiestas across Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley, with locations even at the Jersey Shore, building a veritable pizza empire.

Formerly “The Cobblestone Kitchen,” Sam and Gloria, along with their eldest son Peter, purchased the property at 8339 Germantown Avenue. They decided to keep breakfast on the menu considering the incredible morning popularity of the neighborhood spot.

While Sam eventually liquidated, selling his shares in each restaurant to partners, he retained the Chestnut Hill location, with partner and son Peter running the family business. Throughout the years, all of Sam & Gloria’s five children have contributed to the business’ success – working both behind the scenes and at the counter and ovens. Thousands of loyal customers have watched the Thomas family generations grow as the restaurant continues to deliver its unique Greek style pizzas, Greek specialties, hoagies & steak
sandwiches, dinners and breakfasts.

Over the past 30 years, Fiesta Pizza III has been actively involved in the community, donating food and services to the area schools, charity events and neighbors in need. Sam and his family believe the community is an extension of their family and cherish the personal connections they’ve made by being a part of the neighborhood.

Sam retired in 2010 but is still frequently seen in the kitchen and the dining room, greeting his loyal customers and checking that the restaurant is still running in ship shape. As of January 2012, son Peter assumed full responsibility for the operation of the restaurant and continues to provide the service and quality that has been Fiesta’s hallmark since the beginning.
